Teresa Harrison Larkin, daughter of the late Samuel H. and Ethel Brown, was born on February 5,1934 in Wilmington, Delaware. She entered into eternal rest with her family by her side at the Wilmington Hospital on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
Teresa received her education in the Wilmington Public Schools and graduated from Howard High School, Class of ’52. Teresa was very active on the girls’ basketball team while at Howard. Teresa married her high school sweetheart, Herman “Hershey” Larkin in 1955 and from this union three sons were born, Thaddeus Larkin, Thelonius Larkin and Tyrone Larkin.
Teresa was employed by ICI America for many years as a Lab Tech prior to her retirement. While employed, she participated on a company bowling league. Teresa was an active member of the Simpson United Methodist Church for 41 years. She was a member of the Senior Choir and served on the United Methodist Women’s ministry. She was also a member of the Tuesday morning Bible Study at Simpson. She was a former member of the Covington Ensemble. You would often find Teresa visiting many area churches following and supporting her sister, Rev. Alyce Husser.
Teresa volunteered for many years with the Ministry of Caring at the Emanuel Dining Hall and was a faithful attendee of the Hour of Power at Bethel A.M.E. Church often attending with her sons, Thaddeus and Tyrone.
Teresa modeled for many years as a Shekinah Model and was one of the senior’s models who stood out for her sophistication, classiness and poise. Teresa’s own personal ministry was that of sending cards for all occasions to everyone she knew, near and far. She never missed someone’s special day. Several of her favorite past times was watching her soap operas and police shows.
Teresa was preceded in death by parents, Samuel and Ethel Brown, siblings Margaret, Ralph and Doris and her husband, Hershey Larkin.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, sons, Thaddeus Larkin, Thelonius Larkin (Fatima) and Tyrone Larkin; one beloved sister, Rev. Alyce Husser, six grandchildren, devoted cousins, the Lefates, special friend, Althea (Babe) Gardner, her Simpson United Methodist Church family and a host of other family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday October 27, 2021. The service will be at Simpson United Methodist Church, 907 Centerville Road, Wilmington, DE 19804. Viewing, 9-11 am, service at 11am. Interment, Gracelawn Memorial Park Cemetery. All attendees must wear masks.
