Steven J. Wilkerson, nicknamed Black by his mother, was born and blessed the world with his presence on May 9, 1983. He is the son of his mother Carla E. Bradley (Wilkerson) and Father Eric Jones, Stepfather Kevin Bradley. Steven was his mother’s first of 2 children and truly the love of her life. Steven departed this life on December 22, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Steven received his early education in the public schools of Newark, Delaware. He graduated from Glasgow High school in the Newark public school system and graduated in the top 25% of his graduating class despite special education.
Steven’s personality and spirit could fill any room he accompanied. Our family would often say ‘Steven is doing Steven’ and doing Steven is what he did until the end. He had a very strong will and committed to living his life the way he wished to. He loved his family and would give his last for any of his family and friends. His adventurous personality led him to always meeting new people and always being on the move. Steven was always so happy and brought life to the room often. He loved to dance and sing, Beyoncé held a strong place in Steven’s Heart and his “Sasha Fierce” performances will be forever missed and loved. When his alter ego Ciara took over he could not be stopped, and he would pop and lock until that hip popped if he could.
Steven departed this life on December 22, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was preceded by his grandmother Mary Louise Purnell. He leaves to cherish his grandfather Australia Wayne, his mother Carla, Stepfather Kevin, Father Eric, Brother Robert Wilkerson, Uncle Wayne (Michelle), Aunt Cherry (Martel); Cousins Sheris, Sharis, Cheris, Dink (Lil Waynie), Tierra, and a host of great cousins, aunts, and uncles. Steven shared a very strong relationship with his Aunt Tonya (Aunt Tee) who could often be known as his second mom.
Although your wings were ready our hearts were not. Tomorrow will still come and you will not be here but your smile and laughter will have to be enough we lost the clasps to our family chain, and now a link, but we will sustain until the day we meet again. We Love you little black boy.
