Sheila Mae Caulk , the daughter of the late George Caulk and Carleen Moore and adoptive mother Mary Caulk, was born Friday, July 8th 1955 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. On Thursday September 30, 2021 while she was peacefully sleeping God gently whispered to Sheila come on home, after a valiant fight with multiple sclerosis. Sheila was surrounded by love and family when she entered and exited this world. Early in life her village of family consisted of Beatrice Hawkins (Aunt Bea),Joseph Hawkins (Uncle Slim), Westley Caulk (Uncle West), Ethel Caulk (Mom-Mom), Althea Matthews (Aunt Phillie), and James Matthews Sr.(Daddy Jim). She had a close relationship with her cousins Althea Matthews and James Matthews Jr. She shared a special bond with her siblings Robert Caulk, Louise Caulk Pass, Margaret Lucas, Patricia Caulk, Shirley Murray and Deborah Demby. Sheila was family oriented and glad that she had such a bond that grew stronger as they matured. Sheila graduated from P.S. DuPont in 1973. She was a member of the P.S.DuPont marching band and choir and played the flute and ukulele. She made lifelong friendships there. She loved music and was a member of several choirs including but not limited to the Junior Stars of Faith under Grace Evans and Bessie Jones, Central Baptist Church under the direction of her Godmother Betty Smith, and the DJL Ensemble. Sheila went on to have two sons that she loved dearly ; John Anthony Caulk who took care of his mother towards the end of her struggle with MS until she gained her wings; and her baby boy Phillip Lebrun Caulk. She had a long career at Cigna Healthcare where she was a dental claims adjuster until she retired. She adored her grandchildren Johkora Caulk, Meccah Caulk, Monee Caulk, Kaleef Caulk and Jewel Henry and her great grandchild Milah Frazier and other great grands. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with her niecy Joy Caulk and her family.
Sheila loved the Lord! As a child she attended St. Paul UAME and Ezion Mount Carmel churches. As an adult she attended Refuge Pentecostal Church in Berwyn, PA with her mother Carleen, Sister Debbie, and niece and nephew Salene and Brandon Tate. She is survived by a host of family and friends. Her nieces and nephews Antione Demby, Tobias Demby, Salene and Brandon Tate, Rodney Murray, Richard Murray, Robert Caulk, Michael Caulk, Joy Caulk, Reginald Stevens, Sha-Tanya Stevens, Catherine Stevens, and Richard Matthews. Sheila was everyone's God Mom but her God Children were William Dickerson Jr, Her one and only God Daughter Carmen Dickerson, William Stansbury Jr. and Honorary Godson Michael Caulk. Good friends Leshia Robinson, Denise Hartage, Artis Dennis, Alva Fletcher, Janice Dickerson, Rabbi Raymond “Gizzy” Stansbury.
Sheila was described as kind, fun, loving, family oriented, strong willed, a crazy lady, bubbly, unexpected, impulsive, humble. She was resilient and spoke her mind. She had cokebottle glasses with a Kool Aid smile. She saw the best in everyone and was their cheerleader. She was the sweetest thing, loved hard and didn't stay mad long. She was simply one of a kind.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 9:30 am from St. Paul UAME Church, 3114 N. Market Street Wilm.,DE 19802 There will be no viewing. All attendees must wear masks.
