Robert L. Jones Jr . Son of the late Helen B. (Hayes) and Robert L. Jones Sr. was born November 22, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA and peacefully departed this life on Wednesday July 13, 2022.
He met Juanita E. Purnell and was wed in June of 1966. They were married for 47 years. Out of this union they were blessed with their 3 children Lisa, Robert and W.Scott Jones. They attended St Matthew's Episcopal Church and then Ezion Mt Carmel United Methodist Church.
He received his early education in the Wilmington public school system; graduating from High School at St Emma Military Academy in Powhatan VA. After graduating high school, he attended Delaware State College graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1966.
He was an entrepreneur and co-founder of B & B Janitorial Cleaning; he also worked with the Wilmington Model Cities; a program centered on urban development & Wilmington Housing Authority. He worked as a cab driver for over 20 years and then went on to purchase the shoeshine business at the Wilmington Amtrak Train Station. He frequently engaged in meaningful conversations with the now President Joseph R. Biden, but had become acquainted with him at the Prices Pool during their college years.
Robert affectionately known as Bobby was an avid Philadelphia Sports fan and would often attend football and baseball games with his family. He was a member of Groove Phi Grove Social Fellowship and attended Delaware State homecoming celebrations religiously. Bobby was a socialite and was known and loved by many. He never met a stranger. He watched ME Tv where they only showed old tv shows but Gun smoke was his favorite. Bobby’s most notable memories were made at his favorite spot The Casbar “Where everybody knew his name” Mr. Bobby.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents Helen and Robert, his wife Juanita, and sister Elaine Purnsley. He leaves to cherish his memory his children Lisa(Kim), Robert (Gail) and W. Scott (Stephanie), sister Suzanne Brown, grandchildren Alexis, Devon, and Dominique Jones, Nieces Terri Bruton, Leslie Jeffrey, and Tracee Scott, Nephews Steve and Michael Brown, uncle Earnest Jones and godson Ayron Bruton. He also leaves a host of cousins and close friends.
Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at Bethel AME Church, 604 N. Walnut Street. Viewing 9-10:45 am. Service at 11 am.
