Pastor Barbara Ann Brooks was born on June 26, 1942, in Wilmington Delaware, to the (late) parents of James A. Coley and Carrie L. Daniels. She was raised in Wilmington Delaware in the Dunleith neighborhood. She received her early education in the city public schools and attended Howard High. Her skills and talents led her to becoming a nurse at the ingleside nursing home. Pastor Barbara Ann Brooks gained her heavenly wings and transited from to glory on August 25, 2022 at her daughter's home surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter,
At an early age, Barbara accepted Jesus Christ. As Barbara’s spiritual growth began to manifest even if the early stages of her salvation experience, it was evident to many that she was ordained of God to minister the holy word. That being so, however, it was not until October 1987 that she totally surrendered to the fact that she was not only called but chosen to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Barbara did not preach her initial sermon until January 1990, where she was ordained and licensed as an evangelist by Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She served there for 11 years. In 1992, the lord blessed and appointed to her to become the assistant secretary of the National Baptist Convention (NBC). Barbara has ministered on many occasions through the years, teaching and preaching God’s word, bearing witness, counseling, etc. She was also an intercessory- Prayer Warrior, indeed! As led by the holy spirit, she delighted in praying for others, then hearing the good reports, and seeing God’s word- manifest. She understood the power of agreement during prayer and praying with other intercessors strategically. Among her many gifts and talents are singing, poetry and writing, song writing, writing compositions, manual scripts, play writing and acting. Her ability to write was first noticed by her 5 th grade elementary school teacher (she was 10 at the time). At age 12, she wrote her first novel – like manual script. At age 16 for a high school class project she wrote a composition and titled “This World Today and The People In It “ which won her a high school bonus.
While visiting family in Sandusky OH, another manuscript was written, which just happened to be her last published book “Faith Builders”. Faith builders will captivate and personally inspire and impact the hearts and minds of its readers. In June 2001, she was an assistant pastor of Community Outreach Church. Later, in November 2001, the lord blessed her to be the founder of “Love Is a Ministry” (LIAM). Barbara then branched off to a high-rise facility called “Quaker Hill”, where she began holding bible studies. Barbara’s heart was full of compassion for lost souls and backsliders, and she enjoyed preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Barbara was preceded by her parents James A. Coley and Carrie L. Daniels. Her special Godmother Juanita Beverly Wise. Siblings: Carla Owens, Alvin Gains, Sandra Neal, Alvin Coley, Maurice Coley, Donald Daniels and Connie Daniels.
