Naomi M. Collins was the daughter of the late John McNeill and Mary Johnson
born on April 19,1925. She was born and raised in Pinehurst, North Carolina, located in
Hoke County.
After graduation from Berkley High School, She moved to New York City
where she studied fashion design and stenography. After her studies concluded she
moved to Philadelphia to be closer to family living in the area. At which time, she
then decided to seek a new career in nursing. After completion of her courses Nim,
as we affectionately called her, became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). For the
next twenty five years she worked for the University Of Pennsylvania as a Private
Duty Nurse.
In 1969 she joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she became a charter
member of the Hospitality Guild, serving for twenty five years. In addition to her
service at church, she also served for twenty five years as a member of the
Coordinating Council of the Frontiers International Organization.
In 1981 Nim was united in marriage to Julius Collins. They then
relocated to Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania where they lived happily for seventeen years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Julius T. Collins. Also, siblings
Jack McNeill, Lee H. McNeill, Bernice McNeill, Dannie Lee Sturdivant, Sr. and
Thelma Kendrick. Nim leaves to mourn: nieces and nephews Gregory (Cynthia),
Linda (Wil), Elaine, Linda (Lewis), Dawn (Wayne), Christopher, Mary, Kathleen,
Delores, Ronald, Denva, Debra (Darnell). One cousin Steve (Lettie). Additionally:
Twenty six great nieces and nephews and fifty great great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday December 18, 2023 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 5732 Race Street, Phila., PA 19139. Vieiwng 10-10:45 am. Service, 11 am. Interment, Silverbrook Cemetery
