Mother Luella Collins Tate

Mother Luella Collins Tate, 98 affectionately known as “Mother Tate” and mom mom, Wife of the late Dea. Charles H Tate, Sr of 43 years, daughter of the late Leanna Burney Collins Daniels transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday May 20, 2019 at Shipley Manor Nursing facility Located at 2723 Shipley Rd. Wilmington, Delaware.

Mother Tate 98, was born August 16, 1920 in Eastman, Georgia. Mother Tate received her early education in the Dodge County Public School System, and later a Bachelors degree in elementary education. Mother Tate was kind, loving, devoted and she had this tremendous love for her family and her church family.

Mother Tate relocated from Eastman, Georgia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania In the 1940’s and met the love of her life, Deacon Charles H Tate, Sr. She then joined the New Mt Bethel Baptist Church where she continued working tirelessly doing whatever she could for the Lord.

Mother Tate was a wonderful cook and baker. She always encouraged us to get involved. You never know when or if no one would be available to cook for you. Mother Tate was known for her apple cobbler and of course chicken wings. As Mother’s health started to fail, she reminded us all to send her chickens wings.

Mother Tate adopted first her niece, Gloria, then later she adopted her nephew Charles, two children in need of a happy home. Mother Tate felt if God couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed. If God could not do it, it can’t be done. She was fully committed to her family and her church.

In 1974 she became a certified teacher and began working for the Wilmington Public School System.

She received a meritorious award from the N.A.A.C. P for outstanding Civic and Social Progress for past years service. In addition, October 5, 1996 Mother Tate received an appreciation award for many years of loyal service from the Women’s Auxiliary of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Association. On April 13, 1996 Mother Tate received a certificate of Appreciation and Outstanding service to unit #1 1.C.U.A of Delaware INC. On the 13th of June 2015, Mother Tate received an award in recognition of more than 50 Years service at New Mt Bethel Baptist Church where she was the President of the Missionaries Circle for 35 years.

Mother Tate was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Dea Charles H Tate Sr, one daughter Gloria P Redic, her mother Leanna Berney Collins Daniels, two sisters Deotha Thomas, and Ora Tippens, two brothers Morris Collins, Johnny Collins, one daughter in law Daisey A Tate.

Mother Tate leaves to cherish one son, Charles Tate, Jr., six grands: Charles Tate III, Brandon M Tate, Sr.,(Salene) Jewel Redic, Jr., Charmayne Redic, Charles Devan Redic and Terrance Redic, 17 great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 11 am. Viewing, 9-10:45 am at New Mount Bethel Baptist Church, 504 West 5th Street, Wilmington, DE. Interment, Riverview Cemetery
