Lewis Edward Johnson, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Seasons Hospice in Wilmington Hospital. He was born in Sageville, Maryland on July 16, 1938, to the late Sedella Wiggins and Ralph E. Johnson.
Lewis received his early education at Kennard Elementary and Kennard High School in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. Right after high school, he enlisted in the Army and completed a brief tour. He also received a certification for autobody and fender repair at Manpower Trade School in Wilmington, DE. He owned and operated Lewis Johnson Cleaning Service for 15 years.
Lewis loved fishing, talking, laughing, and cutting up with his family. He loved watching football, especially when the Washington Redskins were playing.
He was a proud dad to his girls Teresa and Yvette from a previous union. He was united in holy matrimony to Sarah Tunnell on December 20, 1976. At the time of his passing, they celebrated 46 years of marriage. From this union they were blessed with 3 children, Lewis, Jr., Ebony and Eric.
He was predeceased by siblings, Inez, Solomon and John Carroll and Ralph Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory, dedicated wife Sarah Johnson, children Lewis Jr. (Laquita), Ebony (Tyran), Eric, Yvette Rose, Teresa Johnson Hayward; Grandchildren, Regena Everett, TreVaun Johnson (Destinny), Tiera Johnson, Monet Miller, Tyana Moore, Lewis Johnson III, Eric Johnson Jr. and Emani Johnson; great-grandchildren TreVaun Jr. and Tahani Johnson. Devoted niece Beverly Carroll and nephew James Tunnell. Siblings, George Carroll (Bernadette), Carl Carroll, Thomas Carroll, Loretta Hinton, Beverly Vann, Mary Castillo, Lola Curtis, and Joann Johnson. Included are his in-laws Vera Bundick (Reginald), Joshua Tunnell, Amos Bratten, Sr., Blanche Spencer, Lois Tunnell, and Charlotte Demby and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023 starting at 11 am from Mt. Zion AUMP Church 2801 Jessup Street Wilmington, DE 19802
