CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF
LENA E. BROWN
“Betty”, as she was affectionately known, was born in Glasgow, Delaware on May 30, 1927 to the late Grayson Jolley and Emma Price. She departed this life on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the age of 94.She attended Howard High School in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md. then later went to work as a hostess, at the DuPont Country Club until her retirement. Betty was always an active person, joining The Rockettes Skating Club in her early years, as well as the Blue Hen Bowling League in Newark. Betty and Everett, both were members of traveling championship bowling teams in the 1990’s. Lena also drove a Wilmington School Bus for many years. She is beloved in her family for her cooking ability, and meticulous attention to detail. In her later years she was one of the most active seniors in the state. From coming out of retirement and landing a job at her local BJ’s club in the 2000’s, to being a faithful and active member of Glasgow Baptist Church, and choir member for years, it was well known, her Sundays were reserved for choir practice and church, and Betty would often be the found, lending assistance at any given church event! Her Love, passion, and dedication first to God, Family & Friends was always on display.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Grayson Jolley and Emma Price, her husband Everett Brown, and sister Evelyn McCoy. She is survived by her daughter Joy Hansford, son Demitrus Jolley, sister Mildred Jolley, brother-in-law Keith Smith, sister-in-law Barbara Smith, 2 grand children,5 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and coworkers.
A celebration of her life service will be held on Tuesday March 15, 2022 at Glasgow Baptist Church, 3021 Old County Road, Newark, DE 19702. Viewing will be from 9-10:45 am with the celebration beginning at 11 am. Masks are required. She will be laid to rest at Rolling Green Memorial Park on Wednesday March 16, 2022 at 11 am.
