Laura Bell King Hummings Dunn, the daughter of Gussie Hummings entered into the world March 4, 1938 and departed this walk of life June 25, 2019.
Laura was born in the small town of Waynesville in Georgia. At a very young age the family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. From there she moved to Woodbine, Georgia to be raised by her Aunt Geneva Harper along with her daughters, Anna Ree Parrish and Hattie Mae Gibbs.
Educated in the public schools of Camden County Georgia, Laura excelled and was advanced two grades ahead. It was there that she met her husband, Willie C. Dunn and married in 1952.
Shortly afterwards, the Dunn Family migrated to Wilmingotn, Delaware. Laura gained employment as a domestic. Being a dedicated employee shse helped to shape the minds of many young children from different families.
Cooking was one of her passions which led her to opening a restaurant in Southbridge called Curt’s Creams. Laura’s cooking skills spread throughout Delaware. Curt and Laura also started a family business, Dunn’s Limo Services, providing employment for family members. She was also passionate about traveling to different islands, sponsoring trips, shopping and reading.
At an early age Laura joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served as a Willing Worker, Deaconess and in other ministries. She moved her membership to MAcadonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Lawrence Wright.
Laura was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She leaves to cherish her memories, Deacon Willie C. Dunn, husband; daughters Aria Hackett and Barbara Wright; stepchildren, Cynthia Diane Roberts, and William Johnson; grandchildren, Clarissa, Preston, Donae, Erica and Jonnell, eleven great grands, one great-great grand, sister Yvonne Edmondson, sister-in-law, Louise Smith, an aunt, Lizella Reid and a host of other family members and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2019 at 11 am. Viewing 9-11 am, Macedonia Baptist Church, 100 Bracken Avenue Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment, Gracelawn Memorial Park Cemetery/
