John Wesley Thomas Jr. at 72 years of age was called home by the lord on Friday, June 19 th , 2020 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. John was born on October 24 th , 1947 to the late Viola Berniece Carter and John Wesley Thomas Sr. John was the sixth child out of ten children. John received his education from Cardozo High School located in Washington, DC. He pursued a career in the military in 1966 where he served in the Vietnam War.
While John was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia he met his devoted wife of 53 years Bettie A. Thomas on October 24 th , 1967. Soon after the two got married on August 8 th , 1968. Their union resulted in their four beautiful and devoted children Velvia A. Thomas, LaToya T. Roane, LaJohn A. Thomas, and Yuvon W. Thomas (Wesley).
After serving in the military John relocated to Wilmington, Delaware. His endeavor led him to pursue a career in computer science in the 1970s at DuPont Company. He was a renowned and well-respected computer scientist for 38 years. In 2003, he retired to become a “POP-POP.” From that day on John dedicated his time to his six grandchildren; DaQuan D. Lloyd, Jordan A. B. Thomas, Varyan J. W. Thomas, Marcel A. Roane Jr., Vymir J. A. Thomas and Jasmine L. L. Thomas.
John showered his family in laughter and love. He taught us keen life lessons that will be passed on throughout eternity. He was a loving husband, dedicated husband and phenomenal best friend.
John was proceeded in death: Viola B. Carter (Mother), John W. Thomas Sr. (Father), Velvia A. Thomas (Daughter), Frank Briscoe (Brother), Barbara “Sissy” Truesdale, Myrtle Thomas Dunbar (Sister)
He leaves to cherish his memories: Wife: Bettie A. Thomas Children: LaToya T. Roane, LaJohn A. Thomas, and Yuvon W. Thomas (Wesley)Grandchildren; DaQuan Lloyd, Jordan Thomas, VaRyan Thomas, Marcel A. Roane, Jr., Vymir Thomas, Jasmine Thomas. Siblings; Joseph Briscoe(Roslyn), Marva McKinney, Margaret "Lovie" Briscoe Hart of MD., Beverly Thomas Smith(Norvell) of Delaware, Theodore Brannum (Yvonne), Jovon Brannum (Brenda) and an abundant number of nieces, nephews and extended families.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday July 2, 2020 at 11 am. Viewing, 9-10:45 am from Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5th Street, Wilm. DE 19801
