James A. Crawley, Jr., son of the late James A. Crawley and the late Charlotte H. Brooker, (Nathaniel Brooker) was born May 4, 1961 at the Wilmington General Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. He departed this life on Monday, November 14, 2022, peacefully at home.
Jay received his education in the public school system of Wilmington and matriculated at Delaware State University where he graduated in May, 1984 with a BS degree in Accounting. While at Delaware State University, Jay became a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
While in high school and college, Jay distinguished himself as an outstanding track and field athlete. As a senior at Christiana High School, Jay was crowned the state 400 meter champion! He later continued his track career at Delaware State University running both the 200 and 400 meter races as well as being a part of various relay teams.
After college, Jay was employed at the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center as an Accountant.
Playing chess was one of his favorite hobbies as was watching athletic events on TV. He later in his life became quite the handy man, especially as it pertains to painting, working mainly with his brother, Kevin.
Jay was preceded in death by his sisters: Charlene Crawley, Antoinette Smith, Roxanne Crawley, Patricia Holmes and brothers, Brian Crawley and Curtis Dennis, and great Uncle, Joseph Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Jazmyn Robinson, Tyrell L. Hoxter, Lyric S. Hoxter and Ngozi M. Roundtree; Stepfather, Nathaniel Brooker, one God-daughter- Tammie; two Grandchildren, Riley Robinson and Dylan Robinson; Siblings: Derrick Crawley, Kevin Crawley, Vernon Crawley, Natalie Brooker, Corey Patterson, and James Johnson; one devoted uncle Lawrence M. Parker (Irma) and a host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins; an endearing friend Laura Boyd; and two special friends, Michael Smith and Tony Britt.
A memorial service will be held on Friday December 2, 2022 at Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5th St. Wilm., DE 19801 at 11 am. Fraternal service will begin at 10:30 am.
