Irene Fletcher

November 1, 1938 — April 10, 2020

Irene Fletcher was born on November 1, 1938, in Pinehill, Alabama to the late Robert and Lillie Mae McNeil. On Friday, April 10, 2020, Irene went home to be with the Lord while at Christiana Care Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Irene received her education at Anne Maine High School in Pinehill, Alabama. Irene relocated to Wilmington, Delaware in her early adulthood.She married the love of her life Owen H. Fletcher and from this union raised Linda, Thomas, Mark and LaTanya.

Irene was employed at Wilmington General Hospital in the Pediatric Unit for years. After leaving the hospital, she continued her education at the Wilmington OIC program. She also, attended a nursing school. She gained employment at the Hewlett Packard Company and remained there until she retired.

Irene was known as the “pincher. She loved her family. She was a fun loving person who lived to terrorize the children in the family by pinching them. She also loved to go to church to hear her grandson Shannon preach. Her granddaughter Jasmine was honored to be her grandmother caregiver for over 6 years, constantly making sure she was well cared for and she met every need for her grandmother with much love.

Irene was a member of the New Community Church and later joined Victorious Life Church.  She loved the Lord.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Owen H. Fletcher; brothers Zannie McNeil and Kenneth McNeil; sisters Carrie Jackson, Lucy Oliver, Ella Smith, and Gertrude McNeil.

Irene leaves to cherish her memory: her children Linda (Kevin) Deshields, Thomas (Christa) McNeil, Mark Fletcher and LaTanya Fletcher, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grand-children; sisters Della Mae Williams, Juanita Bridges (MI), Amelia Thomas (GA), Hazel Jones (PA), Betty Hamilton (GA), Celestine Roberson (MS); sister in law Georgana McNeil;  brothers Robert Lee, Shelly McNeil (AL), Emmanuel Hamilton (AL), Miller Hamilton (GA) and Henry McNeil (GA).

Mommy Rest in Peace.

The viewing will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2020 at Victorious Life Church, 1218 Pulaski Highway, Bear, DE 19701 from 9-11:30 am only. The directives of the State of Delaware will be adhered to during the viewing as a result of the Coronavirus.
