Howard Roger Brown, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the age of 89. Howard was born March 7, 1934, the only son of the late Howard R. “Pete” Brown, Sr, and Luella M. Brown, in Wilmington, Delaware.
Upon graduating from Howard High School, in 1952, he served active duty in the U.S. Army from January 4, 1954 – December 29, 1956, as a CW Radio Operator and 5 years in the Army Reserves with an Honorable Discharge.
Howard worked numerous jobs in his lifetime. He was a truck driver for the former Service Block, Inc.; and a former taxicab driver, he worked as a Process Technician Mechanic at the American Can Company for 9 years and was employed by Conrail and SEPTA Regional Rail for 23 years before retiring in March 1999.
Howard was an active member of the American Legion Post 12, serving as a Post Commander and District Commander, a member of the VFW and the NRA. He was an avid bowler and a member of the Diamond State Bowling Club and served as a Scout Master at 8 th Street Baptist Church, where he attended for many years.
Howard leaves to cherish his memory; his children Howard R. 3rd, Tracey T. Whye (John), Orlando A. (Sherell) and Deion A. (Mary), brothers-in-law Percy Leon Jackson (Sheila) and Arvon U. Jackson and sisters-in-law Carolyn Jackson and Delores Jackson. Two daughters-in-law Lisa R. Saunders and Felicia M. Br
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Evelyn E. Brown, his parents Luella M. Brown and father Howard R. Brown, Sr., his son Marvin D., Brown, his daughter Leondra M. Brown, sister Margaret White, sisters-in-law Alberta D. Jackson, Rachael B. Jackson, Myrtle Jackson, Hannelore Jackson and Minerva Harmon, brothers-in-law Clarence White, Joseph B. Jackson, Jr, Christopher N. Jackson Sr., Robert S. Jackson, Sr., Joseph Harmon and one great-grandson Jayden Terrell Brown.
Cherishing his memory are seven granddaughters, two grandsons, four great-granddaughters, six great grandsons and two great-great grandsons. One special cousin, Sevilla Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
A viewing will be Wednesday, April 19, 2023, 9AM -10:45AM at Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5 th St., Wilmington DE. Service will be at 11AM.
