Geneva R. Marshall

July 31, 1951 — October 7, 2022

Geneva Marshall, daughter of the late James and Rosetta Johnson was born July 31, 1951 in Wilmington, Delaware. She departed this life on October 7, 2022.

Geneva received her education through the Wilmington Public Schools System and Delaware Technical Community College.

Geneva was blessed with a devoted husband, John G. Marshall and was joined in Holy Matrimony in 1985.  She was the loving mother of two children, Angela C. Johnson and Andre’ L. E. Haston.

G eneva was a loyal member of Central Baptist Church from early childhood to April 2000.  She joined under the pastorate of Rev. Arthur R. James.  She was a faithful member of the Central Ensemble where she served as Choir Directress, temporary musician for Male Chorus and also served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President, of the Diaconate Ministry of Central. She frequently visited Faith City Family Church where she attended Faith City’s Bible Institute Classes. For many years she sang with the Anniversary Choir at their annual concert.

After leaving Central she joined Highway Word Of Faith Ministries (HWOF) under the pastorate of Bishop Carl A. Turner, Sr.  She participated on the churches administrative staff in various capacities.  She was also on the Land Development Committee for the new facilities.  She attended Enon Bible Institute classes through HWOF. She later became a member of Seeds Of Greatness Bible Church under Pastor Jerome Lewis and sang on the Senior Choir, and faithfully attended weekly Healing School services. Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 133:1-3 and John 14:1-6.

Geneva played the piano on occasions. She enjoyed dining out and going to “all you can eat” crab restaurants with her friends, going to theatrical plays, attending gospel music workshops, singing, and listening to Gospel music, Jazz, R&B and the “Oldies”.  Other past times were watching the “WORD channel, lifetime movies, game shows and all of Steve Harvey’s programs and specials. Before her illness she loved to travel, socialize, shop and wear her heels.

She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, John G. Marshall, one daughter, Angela C. Johnson (Errol)  of Newark, DE; one son, Andre’ L.E. Haston (Sheila) of Charlotte NC; one Godson Frank Martin Jr.; one sister, Pearl Baylor of Essex MD; three brothers, James Johnson, Jr. (Mary) of Bear, DE; Louis Johnson of Wilmington DE and Charles (Ray) Johnson of Westchester PA; 4 grandchildren, Frank and Asya Glover,  Sydney and Maya Haston; three Great-grandchildren, Noah Ortiz, Zuri Glover and Kaleb Hill; and a host of other relatives and friends.  Geneva was preceded in death by her parents James and Rosetta Johnson, and two sisters, Tawana and Victoria (Vicky) Johnson.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday October 18, 2022, Central Baptist Church, 839 N. Pine Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Service at 11am, viewing 9-10:45 am. Interment, Gracelawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Masks are required.
