Cora R. Johnson

September 16, 1925 — March 8, 2020

Cora Rebecca Johnson was born in Townsend, Delaware on September 16th, 1925, to the late John and Helen Hall. Cora married the love of her life, the late Pearce Johnson, and from this union they had 16 children, 9 boys and 7 girls. Cora began following Jesus at a young age and joined Community Presbyterian Church. Cora was there when the church broke ground along with the late Rev. Dr. Maurice J. Moyer. Cora was a dedicated member of Community Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Cora held many offices while at Community Presbyterian Church. She Ushered, taught Sunday school, sang on the choir, and was Mother of the church for a time. Cora was a true soldier for the Lord and remained steadfast in following Christ throughout her life. She continued to be a beacon of light for her children, taking them to church, on picnics, and many other family outings. “Mom”, as Cora was affectionately called, was a pillar in her community as she always helped those in need. If you had a problem or was going through something Mom would say “Talk to the Lord About it.” She would remind us all that Jesus is our friend.

Cora retired from the state of Delaware after 35 years of service. Cora was an avid bowler and bowled on a league at Bowlerama for some years. After retiring Cora became a member of the DeLaWarr senior center. At the senior center Mom enjoyed the company of the other seniors and became good friends with sisters Kate and Petie Pinkston. In her later years she became a member of the Elwyn Adult Day Care where she enjoyed daily activities. Mom enjoyed reading, singing, dancing, and eating a good meal.

Mom leaves to cherish her memory five children: Holly, Andre, Mitzi (Mitch), Wendy, and Aaron (Marla). Mom will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Mom has now joined her late husband Pearce, her 3 sisters, her brother and her eleven children in Heaven.

The service will be Friday March 20, 2020 at Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5th Street Wilm., DE 19801. Viewing 9-10:45 am, Service 11:00am. Interment, Gracelawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
