Barbara O. Boardley

Barbara was born on May 29, 1929 to the late William Lawrence and Evelyn Hatcher Wilkes in Wilmington, Delaware. She attended the Wilmington public schools and worked in several careers including Allied Kid, St. Michael’s Day Nursery and The Martin Luther King Center.

Barbara was a lifetime faithful member of Harrison Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed worshiping with her family members and friends. Barbara had a gentle and giving spirit. She was always known to save for a rainy day and taught her children and grandchildren her values. She was a great cook and spotless housekeeper. In her earlier years she enjoyed traveling to Broadway shows, Canada and other bus trips.

Barbara had a way of making everyone feel special, especially her grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart for each of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed socializing with her Parkview family. Bingo was her favorite past time. Barbara enjoyed a good laugh and a good joke. Her sense of humor followed her through her last days even in her hospital bed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Gift Boardley(Ivy), daughter Paula Johnson (Cliff), grandchildren; Lerrissa Boardley, Dalasini Brown, Donte Banks, Sparkle Boardley, Jamall Boardley, Charles Banks, Keyonna Bailey, Damien Trawick, Golden Boardley, Sterling Boardley, Faith Johnson and Diamond Boardley. She also leaves 24 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jacqueline Harris, Elizabeth Sullivan, Lillie Wisher(William) brother Alan Lawrence and sister-in-law, Sara Hatcher. She is preceded in death by daughter, Myra Boardley, sons, Melvin Boardley, Glen Brown and brother, Dwayne Hatcher.

Service will be held on Tuesday Jan. 8, 2019, at Harrison Memorial Baptist Church 413 S. Heald Street Wilm., DE. Viewing 9:00-10:45am, service 11:00am. Internment Silverbrook.
