Alvin Henry Brown was born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 19, 1940 to the late Mary and Louis Berry. Alvin received his early education from Dunleith Elementary and Junior High School. From there, he graduated from Howard High School in 1959. After graduation, he enrolled and served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. After leaving the military, Alvin worked for DuPont, which later became Ciba-Geigy, for more than 25 years before retiring in 1991.
At a young age, Alvin faithfully attended Sunday School at Mount Joy Church located in the South Bridge area of Wilmington, Delaware. Later in life, he often could be found studying and reading the bible and enjoying many television broadcasts of church services.
On April 8, 1967, Alvin married the love of his life, Pauline, and from this union, they were blessed with two beautiful daughters – Jacqueline and Jeannette.
Alvin was an avid sports fan, and watched all kinds of sports including football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and fishing, which were some of his favorites. He also loved going fishing and watching the horse races, and travelling. Alvin loved to cook and could often be found watching various cooking shows for new recipes to try. Alvin was a longtime member of the Rod-and-Gun Club and Post 12 of the American Legion.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Louis; his brother, Louis; his sister, Frances; his sister-in-law, Gloria; his brothers-in-law, Charles, John, Joseph, Patrick, Angelo, Lucius, and Christopher; and his nephew, Darnell.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife, Pauline Brown of New Castle, DE, his two daughters, Jacqueline Brown of Waldorf, MD and Jeannette Brown of New Castle, DE; five grandchildren, Andrew Washam, Jasmine Brown, Benjamin Brown, and Chancellor Tate of New Castle, DE and Damon Brown of Waldorf, MD; two great-grandchildren, Nehemiah Beasley of Capitol Heights, MD and Laylah Moody of Wilmington, DE; his sister, Doris (Harry) Robinson of Easton, MD; three sisters-in-law, Celestine Hammond of Wilmington, DE; Catherine Hammond of New Castle, DE; and Charlene (Dorsey) Cromwell of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers-in-law, Anthony Hammond of Wilmington, DE and David (Marcia) Hammond of Middletown, DE; his best friend, Donald Lee (Peggy) Dodd of New Castle, DE; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service at 11:00AM, Thurs., Mar. 30,2017 at Mt. Zion AUMP Church, 2801 Jessup St., Wilm, DE; viewing ,9:00-10:45AM. Interment at Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
