Myrtle Wells, a native of Godwin, North Carolina, is one of 17 children born to the late Daniel L. Murphy and Aggie McNair Murphy.
She was educated in the Cumberland Count y School System in Godwin North Carolina. Myrtle married Frank O. Wells and from that union one child was born. Soon thereafter they relocated to Chester, PA.
Being reared in a Christian home, at an early age she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized at the Spring Hill Baptist Church in Godwin, North Carolina. Sister Wells was one of the fifty-two founding members of the First Faith Baptist Church. During her Christian journey she served the Lord in many ministries. She performed her various ministries with the joy of the Lord in her heart. Later Myrtle joined Murphy AME Church family and was a faithful and devoted servant. She served on the Stewardess Board, Sanctuary Choir and Missionary Board until her health failed.
Myrtle worked as a machinist in the mushroom industry for 25 years. Later, she became a CNA (certified nursing assistant) working for Lima Estate until her retirement. Following her retirement, she continued to care for others doing private duty.
She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, and talking to the neighbors in the development.
Myrtle leaves to cherish her legacy: one daughter, Gladys A Wells; one adopted daughter, Ada Parker; special friend Ernestine Graham; special care giver Lillian Lancaster; one adopted grandson Trevor Graham; one brother-in –law Russell Simmons of Fayetteville, N C., two Sisters-in-laws, Olean Murphy, Fayetteville, NC and Sula Mae Farmel, Buffalo, NY. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Fleta Burch, Ethel Murphy, Mildred Smith, Hettie Murphy, Nora McPhail and Aggie Powell; brothers: Thomas, Wilbur, Clarence, Stanley, Otis, Alton, Robert, Daniel, Maurice and Warren Murphy. A host of niece and nephews.
