Anna M. Moody

Age 95, formerly of Christiana, DE, passed away February 1, 2012, at Churchman's Village Nursing Home in Newark. Prior to being a resident at the nursing home, Mrs. Moody had been a volunteer there for 20 years.

In 1953 Anna married the late Rev. Purnell E. Moody. She was an active member of his churches, teaching Sunday School, attending Bible Study, and acting as pianist when needed. She also served on Finance Committees, and as Mt. Zion Church Secretary and Secretary for the UAME Conference Sisterhood.
Mrs. Moody worked as a Bookkeeper for Baylin/Actin Drug Company for almost 25 years, and simultanelously did the bookkeeping for her husband’s janitorial business. During her retirement years, she continued her life of service. She was past President of the AARP Wilmington Chapter 1972, a member of the RSVP (Retires Senior Volunteer Program) serving as a ‘Friendly Visitor’ at Churchman’s Village Nursing home for twenty years, and at Arbors Nursing Home for three years. She was also a Member of the Newark Chapter AARP.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Purnell E. Moody. She is survived by nieces, Valerie Holland (Moe), Jean Demby, Shirley, Tina, Jacqueline and Jennifer Miller; a host of great nieces and nephews; many friends, including her entire Mt. Zion UAME Church family; faithful visitors: Olivia Finley, Parish, Patsy and Danika Perry, Wilma Jones; and devoted caretakers J. Howard and Crystal Simms.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 10, from 9-11 am. Serivce will be at 11 am, Mother UAME Church, 701 E. 5th Street, Wilm, DE. Interment, Gracelawn Cemetery.
